Short pasta comes in many different shapes, each one with its own unique characteristics. Using a different pasta shapes is the perfect way of adding some variety to your pasta meal. Buitoni has an extensive range of different shapes for you to experiment with.

Penne Rigate:
Diagonally cut quill shaped tubes with a ridged surface. The name originates from the Italian word for quill and rigate means ridges. Penne is the most versatile of shapes as most pasta sauces work well with penne - especially rich meat-based sauces and oven baked dishes. This is a good staple to keep in your cupboard.

Eliche:
Eliche is the familiar spiral shape. The groves of the spiral make it perfect for holding thick sauces. Make sure you don't over cook this pasta, as the shape can be delicate. This shape is also available in our express range which cooks within 5 minutes.

Farfalle:
Farfalle means 'butterflies' in Italian. This medium-sized pasta is crimped at the centre and has pinked edges to form the shape of a bow tie or butterfly. This shape is particularly good in pasta salads because of its decorative shape.

Conchiglie:
This seashell shaped pasta gets its name from the Italian word for shells. Just like a seashell conchiglie has a hollow middle, which makes it ideal for holding thick sauces. Conchiglie is also ribbed to ensure the sauce clings to the outside of the pasta.

Cellentani:
Cellentani is a pasta shaped tube which has been twisted into the shape of a corkscrew. These pasta corkscrews hold their shape and texture once cooked making them perfect for pasta salads. This shape is also available in our express range which cooks within 5 minutes.

Eliche Tricolore:
Tomato and spinach have been combined with durum wheat to create red and green pasta spirals bursting with colour and subtle flavour. The red and green spirals have been mixed with plain pasta spirals to create the traditional three colour mix of Tricolore. Great for adding colour to pasta salads, or mixing with tomato based sauces.

Maccheroni:

Pennette:

Tortelloni:
Tortelloni is an egg pasta parcel filled with various Italian flavours. So the story goes, the ancient God's were so taken with the beauty of Venus they modelled this pasta on the perfect shape of her navel. Buitoni's Tortelloni is filled with the three traditional fillings: the delicate ricotta cheese & spinach, the highly aromatic porcini mushrooms, or proscuitto crudo (air dried and cured ham). Best served with a simple sauce to allow the flavour of the filling to come through.

Gnocchi:
Tiny dumplings made from boiled floury potatoes, gnocchi makes a great alternative to pasta. Taking only minutes to cook - they are ready once they float to the surface. Great served with a rich tomato and basil sauce.
